FEBRUARY NEW RELEASES:

Hopeful Monster - Open Fermented Sour Wheat Ale w/ Black Currants - Hopeful Monster was our first big hit, after the first batch (then called Black Currant Incipient) sold out in under a minute back in early 2017. We’ve brought it back a few times over the years, and it just seems right to release it in the winter again. This batch is jammy, yet crisp, with balanced acidity. $10/375ml bottle - 6.5% abv - 1164 bottes produced - Limited statewide distribution.

Stop Codon - Foeder Aged Spontaneous Ale with Orange Zest, Cocoa Nibs, Fenugreek, & Tamarind - This beer has taken quite the journey to get here! Over two years ago we decided that we wanted to add variety to our spontaneous lineup, so we brewed an amber base, cooled it overnight in the coolship, and threw it down into our 30bbl oak foeder. After two years of aging and mellowing out, we decided on some light additions of spices and tangy tamarind to up the complexity even more, while still allowing the old world sour base shine through. “You taste something new every sip!” - Sweet Lu. $10/375ml bottle - 7% abv - 1512 bottes produced - Limited statewide distribution.

Phototaxis - Mezcal Barrel Aged Sour Ale - This is about as straightforward as we get at Speciation - We filled a single 2nd use Mezcal barrel with golden sour about 18 months ago, and bottled the whole thing up. $10/375ml bottle - 6% abv - 492 bottes produced - No distribution.

Linnaeus - Detroit City Distillery Gin BA Wild Ale - Our friends at Detroit City Distillery make some awesome liquid. So when the opportunity came up to age Genetic Drift in one of their gin barrels, we jumped on it. Two years in the barrel transformed this into a beautifully rustic & herbal saison! If you’ve liked our single barrel unfruited releases in the past, Phototaxis and Linnaeus will not disappoint. $10/375ml bottle - 7% abv - 492 bottes produced - No distribution.

Red Edge - Barrel Aged Sour Ale w/ Cab Franc Grape Skins - Martha’s Vineyard Exclusive Blend - Martha’s Vineyard has been such a fantastic retail partner of ours for over 4 years. Last fall, we got together with them to taste through barrels. Of course, they picked the craziest barrels! Whistleblower (a Gin BA sour) was one of their all time favorite beers, and we just so happened to have one barrel left of that. The other barrel they picked was originally a BLiS Maple Bourbon Barrel, then we used it to age red wine. Since we blended it late fall, we also happened to have a lot of grapes around the brewery, and decided that Cab Franc grape skins would pull the whole thing together. This thing tastes like strawberry lemonade bubbly rose, and we aren’t mad about it. $12/375ml bottle - 8% abv - 564 bottes produced - Half of this batch will be available at Martha’s.

Astral Dominion - Pet-Nat Heritage Apple Cider - This super dry and bubbly cider was made with apples from Great Lakes Heritage Apples. Varieties included in this blend: Arkansas Black, Black Limbertwig, Golden Russet, Lady, Newtown Pippin, Ralls Janet, Tolman Sweet, and Winter Banana. We left the yeast in the bottle, and it’s lively... so be ready with a glass! Named after a song by Detroit Metal band Hollow Earth. $15/750ml bottle - 6.9% abv - 214 bottes produced - No distribution.
