Red Arrow Highway is a band from West Michigan whose members have been playing music for the better part of two decades. Channeling a love for Bruce Springsteen, guitar solos and Coors Light, the band plays a melodic blend of alt-rock and punk with moments both somber and electric. Join them as they celebrate the release of their sophomore album, "Be Someone Better," with Kalamazoo punk friends Bike Tuff.

The members of Space Bar have decades of musical experience between them, playing Jazz, Blues, Afro-beat, Rock, Folk, Bluegrass and Classical. These diverse backgrounds have coalesced into Space Bar’s unique “Avant-Fusion” sound. Playing primarily original compositions, the group’s horn heavy lineup adds a new perspective on what a “Jazz Band” can be. Is it Jazz, or does it just smell funny? There are no limits in space and Space Bar raises the bar of traditional rhythms and harmonies. Welcome to Space Bar. We look forward to seeing you out there!

Travis Swanson is a guitarist, composer, and educator currently based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Swanson’s interests musically range from contemporary classical, to classic country, and jazz. When asked to name his biggest influences he said, “Monk, Trane, Bach, Fugazi, and Hank Williams”. This sort of wide ranging view point led music journalist Tom Hyslop to describe Swanson’s music as, “American Music with Power, Grace, and Authority”. Currently, Swanson is working on a new multiple release project entitled, “Lineage”, which will feature several albums worth of material being released with his trio.

That’s right, Speciation has a book club! We read Nature nonfiction books, and have a casual discussion for about an hour. We meet every 2 months to give you plenty of time to read the book, and generally we pick books around 300 pages long.

This month’s book is Entangled Life by Merlin Sheldrake.

In Entangled Life, the brilliant young biologist Merlin Sheldrake shows us the world from a fungal point of view, providing an exhilarating change of perspective. Sheldrake’s vivid exploration takes us from yeast to psychedelics, to the fungi that range for miles underground and are the largest organisms on the planet, to those that link plants together in complex networks known as the “Wood Wide Web,”  to those that infiltrate and manipulate insect bodies with devastating precision.

Tony Halchak is a singer/songwriter from West Michigan who grew up in a small coal mining town in Pennsylvania. Mixing folk and Americana, Halchak's songs are like postcards from various blue-collar towns sprinkled throughout Rust Belt America.

Peter is a young up-and-coming bluegrass phenom. With technical proficiency beyond his years, he brings excitement to every room he plays.

The Hey Makers are a Traverse City based Irish rebel folk band delivering celtic music with reckless enthusiasm and loads of craic. These lads bring Irish folk and rebel tunes to life at any venue, singing in both English and Irish (as Gaeilge). You can expect wit, humour, and an Irish history lesson along the way. The Hey Makers play traditional Irish favorites, along with contemporary Irish tunes you never knew you needed. Bagpipes, Accordion,  Irish whistle and more! Guests of all ages will be singing and clapping along, and may even hop up to dance a jig or reel!

Think you are good at puzzles? Then it’s time to get a team of 2-4(max) friends together and join us at Speciation Cellars for a puzzle competition on March 5th at 6 pm! You will be racing against the clock and against other teams to put together a 500 piece nature themed puzzle.

The cost to register a team is $15 and only one registration is needed per group. Each team will get to keep their puzzle at the end.

The Sundogs are an acoustic duo that has been playing breweries all over West Michigan for the last 10 years. They are the only solar-powered band in the United States (maybe even the world!!!) They play a nice mix of covers and originals drawing from Jerry Garcia, Bob Marley, and all of our bluegrass heroes. It's fun music with dueling lead guitar and two-part harmonies.

Join local artist, Madison Memering at the upcoming nature night to paint different moth species found in Michigan! Madison has prepared some of her beloved moth illustrations for you to collaboratively watercolor paint in hopes to celebrate these special creatures through this act of admiration. Climate Cafe is a nonjudgmental space open to anyone in GR down to share eco-emotions within a group setting and justice orientation.

It's here, tickets for our first dinner of 2026! Join us February 8, 2026 at 5pm at Speciation to celebrate local, Michigan brews and farms! This would make a great gift for the holidays, an upcoming birthday, or even (for the super proactive amongst us), a fun early Valentine's Day.

The meal will feature produce, proteins, and other ingredients from local farmers and producers. When developing our menus, we do our best to consider common allergens and restrictions, while staying true to the ingredients and their farmers.
