✨ Special Feature: @jackie_rye from @betwixt.gallery will be at Speciation with special BUG FLASH TATTOOS ! Jackie is a hand-poke tattoo artist who specializes in fine line, illustrative, ornamental, pattern-work, stippling, and hand + finger tattoos. They have a studio that celebrates uniqueness and radical self-expression and have curated a flash sheet exclusive to Bug Club members. Tattoos are priced by size and will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Come early to sign up and if we don't have enough time, there will be an overflow day Saturday, December 13th for any missed connections. 📽️ Presentation: How lucky are we to invite DaiLynn Dietz to present on color and butterflies! DaiLynn has a background in physics and will be teaching us about the optical properties of butterfly wings around structural color. You'll be fascinated to hear about butterfly scale structural color, traditional pigment, and the physics that govern the deeper phenomena.
🏆 December Bug of the Month: This month YOU will have a chance to pitch a bug for consideration! YOU have the chance to pitch a native bug, near and dear to your heart, that deserves the honor of being our bug of the month. Who do you think deserves to be the last bug of 2025!? Think of the last rock you flipped over...
🎨 Activity: Did someone say craft and a movie? During a busy holiday season, we want to unwind and give ourselves some space to breathe. What better way than making bug crafts and watching bugs (can you tell we like bugs?)! We'll be playing the 1996 European documentary "Microcosmos" which delightfully focuses on the interactions between insects and other small invertebrates. We'll also have a bug-load of crafts to share! Make an ornament, bead creature, diabolical little homunculus, etc etc! Anything that makes your heart flutter. Bring any craft materials you'd like to share and hang out with us as long as you'd like.
